In a heartwarming tale that’s captured hearts across social media, a rescue dog named Clementine has gone from “complete defeat” to living her best life, proving that second chances really do change lives.
A Last-Minute Rescue
When Clementine was first rescued in January 2021, she was quite literally on death’s door. “She was rescued TWO days before her euthanasia date and was just a shell of a dog,” her mom revealed. “I’ve never seen anything like it, just complete defeat.”
Initial Health Challenges
The situation was dire – Clementine weighed just 45 pounds and was battling five different infections simultaneously, including methicillin-resistant staphylococcus pseudintermedius, commonly known as “dog MRSA.” She was missing half her fur and, despite daily medicated baths, was “sticky and nauseatingly smelly,” according to her rescuer.
The Amazing Transformation
After 19 dedicated vet visits and an abundance of love (and nutritious food), Clementine blossomed into a picture of happiness. By August 2021, she’d gained a healthy 25 pounds and was thriving, despite having more than 60 different allergies that required special food and immunotherapy.

“She’s still easily spooked but enjoys morning cuddles, sleeping at my feet while I work and scratches behind the ears!” her mom shared. “Her tail goes crazy and she groans with excitement when I wake up and say ‘good morning!’ to her.”
A Journey of Small Victories
The recovery wasn’t simple. It took Clementine two weeks to truly sleep in her new home, three months to stop sitting facing walls, and five months to learn how to play with toys. Each milestone represented a step toward healing.
Living Her Best Life

Today, Clementine thrives on her family’s two-acre property with her canine siblings. “She just follows them everywhere, constantly initiating play with boisterous boops,” her mom says. At three years old, she’s discovered her playful side, exploring every corner of her home and keeping watchful guard over her territory.

A Message of Hope
Her mom’s parting wisdom resonates deeply: “If you don’t know the joy of rescuing a dog in need, I’ve done it three times and there’s no feeling better than when they start to love and trust again.”
This story serves as a powerful reminder that with patience, love, and dedication, even the most challenging rescue cases can have beautiful outcomes. And yes, it’s perfectly fine if this story brings tears to your eyes – it certainly did to ours.
